Natural Toothpaste and Toothpaste Alternatives

Does Fluoride Free Toothpaste clean teeth? Does Vinegar

Yes, they do!

This is a big question, and one to keep in mind when you consider switching to a natural paste or gel. Fluoride is intended to chemically strengthen the teeth, making them more resistant to being weakened by acids, which leads to cavities.  However, fluoride can accumulate in our bodies.

You can minimize any risks from fluoride by making sure you spit when brushing your teeth and not swallow the toothpaste.

Today there are other great, naturally effective ingredients and toothpaste alternatives that keep those chompers clean! Some cool alternatives to toothpaste are:
  1. Sea Salt - You can’t get any more natural than this - just dab some on your tooth brush and brush away! You can also dissolve the salt in water first and dip your brush in the saltwater before brushing if you’re worried about abrasion.

  2. Baking Soda - One of the most popular toothpaste alternatives, and you use it the same way you would sea salt. Many people use baking soda as a base for homemade tooth powder…just mix with a few drops of peppermint essential oil and a stevia and enjoy the minty fresh clean feeling.

  3. Coconut Oil - Did I mention I love coconut oil? You can seriously use Coconut oil for everything, and here is another perfect example. Coconut Oil’s antibacterial and antifungal properties make it perfect to combine with other toothpaste ingredients, such as baking soda and essentials oils.

  4. Oil Pulling - This is a method where you basically swish around a tablespoon of a vegetable based oil (coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil, etc.) for a few minutes, and then brush with water (or another method listed above), and VOILA! Squeaky clean pearly whites!

If you think you’d rather stick to toothpaste but still want to go the natural route - great!

Ingredients like Aloe Vera and Chamomile are used in natural toothpastes and gels instead of Fluoride. Licorice and Olive extract are some ingredients that help to prevent cavities, and Iceland Moss is an ingredient that has been used by the locals of Iceland to gently whiten their teeth.

You will also find calcium & potassium nitrate in those natural toothpastes but don’t worry… these are safe for you and will help to strengthen tooth enamel while addressing sensitivity.

Did I mention that Kiss My Face uses these ingredients in their oral care formulas?!Kiss My Face Fluoride Free Toothpaste.png

The answer is always your personal preference…you can use an alternative or you can choose a fluoride free paste and know that you are safe and the formula is effective. The choice is up to you! XO
